It would be misleading for us to report the bias on the Left and not to discuss the bias on the Right also. Whenever the citizens or their press ceases to self-govern and tolerates incomplete or inaccurate reporting, it is an existential threat to Liberty. It is not OK for “our guys” to match the tactics of the Left with the same tactics. Here are two examples of shameful misinformation on the “right”.
The irresponsibility of today’s Press, the media’s refusal to govern itself, is an existential threat to the Freedom of the Press, and indeed to Liberty in general.
Restoring Civic Virtue – Tiger, the President, and the Press.
Tiger Woods gives us a lesson in civic virtue, which is largely lost on the press corps.
Restoring Civic Virtue – A Contemporary Perspective on Liberty, virtue, personal responsibility, and the civil society. The Bible teaches us that public virtue is more likely when the citizenry is informed by a Biblical worldview.
What is going on in our country? Our culture is coarsening before our eyes. Only the most cloistered can fail to notice the increasing incivility in the discourse in our country. These events should not surprise believers who hold to a Biblical worldview, but how do we respond?
The Biblical Worldview is based on Creation, The Fall, and Redemption. In this post we use pictures to illustrate the Creation story from the Bible.
If we believe that God created the earth and that it was good, and that The Fall has corrupted the world, leading to the evil that is evident around us, then we are justified in asking “What is God doing about this?” That is where Redemption comes in. But it is not just those other guys that need God’s redemption, it is you and it is me – every one of us has sinned and needs redemption.
The developing scandal that began in Hollywood with Harvey Weinstein and is now rippling through the institutions of the Left, provides a vivid reminder of what happens when a society abandons Biblical standards of righteousness and goes its own way. It does not end well.
Taking a knee would be a good thing, if people were bowing humbly before a holy God and acknowledging that He alone is sovereign. This is not what the protests in the NFL are about. They are about pride, selfishness, attention-getting, and political agendas. There is nothing in this that demonstrates civic virtue.
The Founders believed that certain civic virtues were required of citizens if they were to be able to govern themselves. These virtues can all be found in the teachings of Jesus and of the Apostles in the New Testament.
